Farm Mania is another take on the classic time and resource management game. It uses the always-endearing farm life theme, allowing you to experience a laidback country atmosphere as you run around growing pumpkins and rearing ducks.

Gramps' farm hasn't been doing too well lately. Anna has decided to spend some time helping him get the farm in working order, and you're there helping to coordinate tasks and activities. With any luck, you'll manage to get the farm running smoothly and become profitable again. And hey... any excuse to play with ducks and chickens and sheep!

The main mechanic in Farm Mania is to efficiently plant, water, weed and harvest crops, as well as feed and maintain the various farm animals. The produce and the resulting eggs and wool are then carted off to be sold at the market. The goal of the game is to efficiently perform these tasks and strategically decide the order and priority of the tasks.

Each level of the game will require you to complete certain objectives within the allocated time limit. These objectives can range from earning $500 from your farm produce, or more detailed ones such as maintaining a managerie of 3 sheep and selling 6 pumpkins.

At the lower levels, the tasks are pretty simple. You only need to worry about planting one or two types of crop and maintaining them. As you progress through the game, you will need to contend with more and more types of vegetables as well a growing assortment of animals you need to care for. To make things even more complicated, each type of crop and each animal has different needs and different timing cycles, challenging your time management skills to the max!

However, you can buy help! Depending on how well you perform at each level, you earn cash that you can spend to upgrade your farm. You can buy more profitable crops and animals. You can also buy machinery upgrades that allow you to move faster, carry more feed, cart more produce to the market etc. Hopefully the upgrades will prevent you from being swamped by the many things that require your attention.

The game is not all about resource and time management. Interspersed between the many levels of the game are mini-games that are quite entertaining and add to the feel of the farm life. For example, you will need to search the forest and rescue lost sheep from hungry wolves.

As a whole, Farm Mania is a nice rendition of the time management game. Its look and feel - together with its beautiful music and atmosphere - makes it a very enjoyable game to play. Hopefully you can multi-task well... otherwise you're going to have a headache trying to juggle all the various farm tasks waiting for you. Who says working on a farm is a simple life?
